EPFO member portal: How to Update Mark Exit Date?

Update your EPF account’s exit date in EPFO member portal if you move jobs or are employed and transferred to a different state, as failing to do so will result in the cessation of your EPF contributions. Updating the employment termination date in the EPF account is crucial. 

With the EPFO site, you can update your EPF account online while at home. However, you must connect your cellphone number to Aadhaar in order for this to function. 

It’s important to update your EPF account with the new date of job exit if you’ve quit your job, moved to a different state, or left a company. If you change job, be sure to update the exit date in EPF account otherwise the epfo online claim money will stop.

Updating EPF Account Online

Understanding the Employee Benefits, it is important to update the date of leaving the job in the EPF account. You can update the EPF account at the online EPFO unified portal sitting at home. Mobile needs to be linked with Aadhaar for this task. 

Consequences of Not Updating Exit Date

If you have quit your job in a company and worked elsewhere, be sure to update the date of exit in your EPF account. If you do not do this, there may be difficulty in transferring funds from EPF account. Generally, the company itself sets the exit date of the employee who quits the job. However, if the old company has not entered the exit date in the EPFO login portal or the employee has not done so, there will be a problem in transferring the PF balance check. 

Updating Exit Date Before Transferring PF

As per EPFO rules, if you join a job in a different company and want to transfer PF, before that you need to update the date of leaving the job from the old company in the EPF account. You can do this within two months of leaving your job. You don’t need to go anywhere to update the job exit date. EPFO has launched a facility to update online from home. 

Mandatory Linking of Mobile Aadhaar

Linking Mobile Aadhaar is mandatory. Date of leaving job i.e. exit date will be updated only when your mobile number is linked with Aadhaar. Because this facility is available through OTP sent to mobile number linked to Aadhaar (Aadhaar Linked Mobile). Also, only people who have activated their UAN and linked UAN with Aadhaar can avail this facility. An OTP will come on the number linked with Aadhaar, by entering it you can access the EPFO website. 

Steps to Update Job Exit Date

1. First, Go to EPFO Member Portal to the member service website: (https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/)
2. After successful EPFO UAN login, Click on the “Manage” button and then click on “Mark Exit.”
3. Now go to the “Select Employment” dropdown and select your PF Account Number.
4. Enter the date of exit and also write the reason for exiting the job.
5. Click on “Request OTP” and enter the OTP received on the mobile linked with Aadhaar.
6. Select the check box, click “Update,” and then click “OK.”
7. You will receive a message on your mobile confirming the successful update of your resignation date from the previous company.
